Beer is a major aspect of German culture! This February we got the chance to visit the sweet university town of Heidelberg which certainly isn’t lacking in this department. For a traditional German brewery experience, we ventured to the Old Town, where we stumbled across Vetter’s Alt Heidelberger Brauhaus — there, you can try a variety of light and dark beers all made adhering to the 500-year-old Beer Purity Law, dictating that all beer produced in Germany be made using only hops, malt, water and yeast. Available in sizes including anything from 0.3 litres to 1 and 5 litres, this is also where you can try one of the strongest beers in the world at 33%! The ambient atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious German cuisine were enough to leave us longing to return!
