The dream of this retreat all began with Berny Serrão, born in Mozambique, who thought of southern Alentejo as her “stolen Africa”. Her and her husband Glenn had fallen in love with the open landscapes and unpolluted starry skies, and wanted to share their love of nature and turn their special country house into a tranquil refuge for travellers to enjoy. Their dream became a reality once they opened the doors to the world in November 2014, and now Paraíso Escondido (also known as Hidden Paradise) is the perfect destination to slow down, relax and reconnect with all the beautiful things that life has to offer.
Often referred to as as the Tuscany of Portugal, with its beautiful sun drenched rolling landscapes dotted with sleepy villages surrounded with cork trees and olive groves, South West Alentejo is the place to be. Drive 15 - 20 minutes from the property to some of Europe’s most beautifully preserved coastlines, and discover some hidden unspoiled beaches. Make your way to the Costa Vicentina National Park and discover a myriad of unique species of flora and fauna. For all you wine lovers, this region also offers some of the finest wines you could ever imagine. If you are searching for nature, sun, relaxation and amazing food, this is a place where all your senses will be stimulated and satisfied.
Featuring neutral colour palettes with pops of colour, stunning four-poster beds, wood-burning stoves and stunning views across the land, all the bed linen is made in Portugal using 100% percale cotton, with a 200 thread count to give a luxurious silk-like feel. There are also a selection of Elemental Herbology products by The Green Project in each room, providing only the most natural ingredients, with no harsh chemicals and no waste!

To inspire and encourage connection with food by experiencing unique flavours from locally-sourced and organic ingredients, partly collected from our organic garden”. Only serving vegetarian and vegan cuisine with Ayurveda influences, 90% of their produce has been locally sourced within a 35km radius to support their local suppliers and to reduce their carbon footprint. Breakfast and dinner menus are based on a ‘farm to table’ concept using locally sourced produce and seasonal vegetables from their organic vegetable garden.
