Venissa Wine Resort

Venice, Italy

Housed within its own walled vineyard on the lesser-known island of Mazzorbo, Venissa is a Michelin-starred wine retreat set in a charming old manor house that allows guests to witness a different kind of Venice altogether. The island is somewhat of a best-kept secret in Venice and sees far fewer visitors than its neighbour, Burano. The villa itself is surrounded by two hectares of vineyards and gardens with only six guestrooms, which make it lovingly exclusive and intimate. Venissa's vineyard is the only one in the world to produce the indigenous dorona di Venezia grape variety which has now been recovered and thrives in the local area.

Unique Taste Of Venice

If you wish to slow down to the pace of the Venetian Lagoon then Mazzorbo is a perfect option and can be accessed via boat from central Venice. Get a more authentic and calming experience of Venice here and enjoy a range of rowing classes, wine tastings and photography lessons.

The Location

Located in the northern Venetian Lagoon, Mazzorbo is home to a quaint population of just 256. Its tranquil atmosphere is a welcome breath of fresh air, but for an energetic dose of vibrancy, you can access the brightly-coloured houses of Burano via the wooden Ponte Longo bridge. The nearby island of Torcello is also certainly worth perusal to complete your exploration of the quieter portion of Venice.

The Rooms

Overlooking the calming lagoon or with sweeping views across the famed Venissa vineyards, the hotel's five guestrooms offer a rustically luxurious place to rest. Wooden-beamed ceilings and modern touches make these spaces both elegant and snug.

Nibbles & Tipples

Unearth the excellence of this Michelin-starred restaurant famed in Mazzorbo, with a focus on local fish from the lagoon and produce from their gardens with meals enjoyed in the vineyards. Nominated as best female chef in 2019, indulge in the consistently superb and creative set of dishes created by Chiara Pavan.

For a more tranquil and informal atmosphere, Osteria Contemporanea is where you'll find an array of traditional fare paired with the unique wines of Venissa. Enjoy the fusion of more than 22 different types of aromatic herbs and witness the true flavours of "native" Venice.

God is in the details

Admire beautiful views of the lagoon from the guestrooms at the front and enjoy this authentic and carefree taste of Venetian life. As the sun goes down, there's no place more atmospheric than Mazzorbo. Take a trip over to Burano in the evening as the crowds become less intense and soak up the vibrant scenery on offer.
