Smells

The smell of pine trees mixed with fresh salty air, cigarette smoke wafting through rustic cafes, garlic and oregano frying in a pan, the sweet scent of oranges drifting on the wind; the aniseed-scented smell of ouzo, coming from dark tavernas.

Tastes

Yogurt infused with sweet honey; Greek salad with juicy tomatoes, ripe olives and crumbling feta cheese; rich Moussaka with succulent mince and chargrilled aubergine; crisp slices of pita, just waiting to be dunked into hummus or tzatziki; marinated cubes of meat grilling on the barbecue; sweet twirls of ‘Kantaifi’ a delicious honey-soaked version that is like shredded wheat; flaky sugar crusted baclava; bitter, piping-hot Greek coffee; and so much more. Greece also has a number of restaurants that have achieved Michelin stars, the most famous of which are, ‘Funky Gourmet’, which offers reimagined Greek classics with funky contemporary twists, and ‘Spondi’, featuring a Greek version of classic French cuisine.
